Cancer Support at PACE Health Management

World Cancer Day is an international day marked on February 4 to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment.

Did you know?

  • An estimated 145,000 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in Australia this year, with that number set to rise to 150,000 by 2020?

  • 1 in 2 Australian men and women will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85?

  • Cancer is a leading cause of death in Australia - almost 50,000 deaths from cancer are estimated for 2019?

These are sad statistics; however, we want spotlight the positive role exercise can play in both prevention and management of cancer.

Exercise plays a vital role in preventing cancer, reducing the side effects of cancer and cancer treatments and reduces the risk of recurrence as well as lowering the relative risk of dying from their cancer diagnosis.

Exercise intervention should be accessible and prescribed to all those diagnosed with cancer as another form of treatment, just like medication, without all the side effects.

The positive role that exercise plays on cancer diagnosis include improving quality of life, managing mental distress, reducing cancer related fatigue, minimising physical declines and allows patients to better manage aggressive treatments.

As Accredited Exercise Physiologists we help to educate, re-affirm and individualise prescription exercise to cancer patients to maximise the benefits of physical activity on cancer outcomes.

Just like a dosage of medication, exercise is prescribed individually through duration, intensity and actions. We are here to support, encourage and empower you throughout your journey.

At PACE Health Management we pride ourselves on our knowledge, training and care for our community. We encourage those who live with cancer or know a loved one who has been affected to get in touch with us today and let us be part of your health care team.
